Real Madrid Could Sign Donnarumma from Man City

Real Madrid could emerge as frontrunners for Gianluigi Donnarumma should Manchester City’s legal battle over the 115 Premier League charges trigger a major squad overhaul.

Why Donnarumma’s Manchester City Future Is in Question

According to TEAMtalk, the Italy goalkeeper is among several City players who could attract serious interest if the club face heavy sporting or financial punishment. There is no suggestion he is pushing for an exit, and City maintain their innocence, intending to challenge the guilty finding. Any sanction remains undecided.

The 27-year-old arrived from Paris Saint-Germain last September for roughly £26m, billed as one of Europe’s finest shot-stoppers. Relegation or similar penalties would change the picture dramatically.

Who Else Wants the Former AC Milan Keeper?

Donnarumma would not lack suitors. Champions League experience, international pedigree and his prime years make him an obvious target. Manchester United explored a deal in 2025 while seeking an Andre Onana replacement, but wages reportedly around £330,000 per week proved a stumbling block.

Bayern Munich, Juventus and Inter Milan have all been linked at different stages, with a return to Italy always a possibility. Yet Real Madrid may hold a significant edge.

Real Madrid’s Goalkeeping Succession Plan

Los Blancos are weighing their long-term options as Thibaut Courtois moves deeper into his career. Donnarumma’s physical presence and big-game background suit a club built to chase the biggest trophies.

Replacing an established No.1 brings intense scrutiny, and Donnarumma has already handled that at Milan, PSG and with his country. The Bernabéu would not be unfamiliar territory.

The obstacles are financial. His salary is considerable, and City would have little reason to sell cheaply unless circumstances forced them.

Our Take

In my view, this only becomes a live story if City are compelled to sell. Without that, it is speculation. With it, Madrid would suddenly have an elite, proven goalkeeper potentially available at a negotiable fee, and few clubs are better placed to move quickly.

For Donnarumma, regular Champions League football and the chance to become Madrid’s long-term first choice would be obvious attractions. Everything hinges on what unfolds away from the pitch at the Etihad.
