Liverpool, Man Utd Scout WAFU Star Alieu Saine
Liverpool and Manchester United are reportedly monitoring Gambian teenager Alieu Saine after his impressive showing at the WAFU Zone A Under-17 tournament, according to Football Insider. The TMT Football Academy forward has emerged as one of the standout names in West Africa’s youth scene.

Who Is Alieu Saine?
Saine, a 16-year-old winger, finished the competition as joint top scorer and was regarded by many observers as one of its best attackers. His form earned him a call-up to train with The Gambia’s senior national team alongside several other young prospects. Scouts from both Anfield and Old Trafford have taken note, and they are said to be following his progress closely.
WAFU Tournament Becoming a Talent Showcase
The Gambia won the Under-17 event, and the competition has become a valuable shop window for emerging African players. Chelsea have reportedly shown interest in Samper FC’s Adama Jeng, while Manchester United are said to like another TMT youngster, Omar Marong. Saine now joins that growing list of Gambian names attracting attention from England.
Is a Transfer Realistic for Saine?
Not yet. Any move remains a long way off, but the interest points towards a possible approach in future. Other clubs are expected to join the chase, and the lure of Liverpool or Manchester United would be difficult to ignore for a teenager at this stage. Given that a deal would likely only materialise once he turns 18, both clubs are effectively planning for the long term.
Our Opinion
Youth recruitment has become a priority at both Premier League giants, and Saine’s maturity suggests he fits the profile. In our view, Liverpool may hold an advantage given their track record of developing young forwards, though Manchester United’s pull remains considerable. Sustained scouting now could prove decisive if a bidding war develops in two years’ time.
