Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is plotting a £50 million move for the Atletico Madrid defender Jose Gimenez to partner Eric Bailly at the heart of Old Trafford’s defence.
If the latest rumours are to be believed, Mourinho is unhappy with his defensive options this season as the likes of Smalling, Blind and Rojo have failed to make an impact so far.
The Daily Mirror are reporting that the 21-year-old is Mourinho’s prime target for the January transfer window.
The Uruguayan is a key player for Diego Simeone and the La Liga outfit are unlikely to sell him this new year. That means, Mourinho might have to wait until summer to sign the centre-back.
The player has a £56 million release clause in his contract and if the Red Devils decide to trigger it, they can get him easily without much efforts.
United certainly have something special to grab a deal like this. The only hurdle for them could be Gimenez’s willingness to move.
