Fiorentina plot summer move for Man City’s James McAtee

Serie A side Fiorentina are reportedly eyeing a summer swoop for Manchester City starlet James McAtee as they look to bolster their attacking options.

Fiorentina Renew Interest in McAtee

According to La Nazione via Firenze Viola, Fiorentina have reignited their interest in 22-year-old McAtee after a failed attempt to sign him earlier this year. The Italian club are eager to add a creative midfielder to their squad, and the versatile Englishman fits the profile.

McAtee, who rose through Manchester City’s academy ranks, is known for his technical ability, vision, and flair. Despite being highly rated, he has struggled to secure a regular role in Pep Guardiola’s star-studded squad, particularly following the arrival of Argentine sensation Claudio Echeverri.

Manchester City Future in Doubt

The 2024/25 season saw McAtee make 34 appearances for City, but most came in minor competitions or off the bench. With fierce competition in midfield and Echeverri now ahead of him in the pecking order, McAtee’s path to consistent first-team football appears blocked.

As a result, several European clubs have been monitoring his situation, including Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund. However, Fiorentina hope to convince McAtee that Serie A offers the perfect platform for his next chapter.

Why Fiorentina Want McAtee

The Viola could soon be in need of a new attacking midfielder, with Albert Gudmundsson attracting interest from the Premier League. McAtee’s profile makes him a strong candidate to fill that potential void — young, dynamic, and hungry for minutes.

While competition from clubs like Dortmund may complicate matters, Fiorentina remain optimistic. Manchester City are also expected to be open to a deal if McAtee pushes for regular playing time elsewhere.
