Chelsea Eye Barcelona Midfielder Marc Casado in Summer Swoop
Chelsea are looking to bolster their midfield options ahead of a demanding season that includes a return to Champions League football. Having already strengthened their attack, the Blues have now set their sights on Barcelona’s highly-rated youngster Marc Casado.
Casado on Chelsea’s Radar
According to Caught Offside, Chelsea are keen on signing the 21-year-old Spanish midfielder, who is seen as a valuable asset by Barcelona. Despite being well-regarded at the Camp Nou, Casado could be made available this summer due to the Catalan club’s ongoing financial troubles. A fee in the region of £43 million is reportedly being considered for the La Masia graduate.

A Smart Long-Term Investment
Casado fits Chelsea’s long-term vision under new head coach Enzo Maresca. Known for his composure in tight spaces and excellent ball-winning ability, the Spaniard could offer serious competition to Moises Caicedo in the holding midfield role. His presence would also allow Enzo Fernandez to be deployed further forward, where his creativity can shine.
One of Casado’s biggest strengths is his versatility. In addition to operating as a defensive midfielder, he is also comfortable at right-back and even centre-back—traits that would be highly valuable in Maresca’s possession-based, build-from-the-back system.
Game Time and Growth
Casado has struggled for consistent minutes at Barcelona, mainly due to stiff competition in midfield and new manager Hansi Flick’s preferences. However, at Chelsea, he could expect a more defined role and regular game time, especially with the club’s need for depth in midfield.
If Chelsea can secure his signature, they won’t just be signing a promising talent—they’ll be investing in a player tailor-made for their evolving tactical identity.
