Manchester United are reportedly considering a move for free agent Adrien Rabiot, according to Dutch outlet Transfer Watch. Despite a busy summer transfer window that saw the arrivals of Matthijs de Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui, Leny Yoro, and Joshua Zirkzee, Erik ten Hag appears keen to add more midfield depth.
Rabiot, who was linked with United a couple of years ago, could be the solution to the club’s midfield woes. The Red Devils have had a rough start to the season, losing two of their first three Premier League games. The midfield, in particular, has looked vulnerable, with Casemiro’s recent performances coming under scrutiny.
Although United signed Manuel Ugarte to bolster their midfield, the lack of experience in depth remains a concern. Kobbie Mainoo and Toby Collyer, the other options available to Ten Hag, are both promising but lack the experience needed at the top level. Christian Eriksen, while still a talented playmaker, may struggle with the physical demands of the Premier League at this stage of his career.
Rabiot, who left Juventus at the end of last season, represents a low-risk option for United. Valued at around £29 million by Transfermarkt, securing his services on a free transfer would be a shrewd piece of business. His versatility and experience could provide the stability and quality United need in the middle of the park, helping to turn around their shaky start to the campaign.
