Tottenham Hotspur are lining up a swoop for FC Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa ahead of next season.
Spurs have identified the Portugal international as a prime candidate for the summer transfer window, according to a report by Jornal de Noticias via Sport Witness.
The 23-year-old goalkeeper has been with FC Porto since he was a child and has risen through the ranks to become their top choice in goal over the last few seasons. He has also gained attention for his impressive performances, including being the starting goalkeeper for Portugal in all of their matches at the FIFA World Cup 2022, where he displayed impressive skills. As a result, there is renewed interest in the stopper’s services from English clubs.
Although Costa’s contract with FC Porto extends until 2027, he could be on the move this summer due to interest from clubs across Europe. While FC Porto are not interested in selling their talented player, a bid close to his €75 million release clause may be tempting.
Costa has been in sensational form this season, with 30 appearances and 14 clean sheets to his name. It’s no surprise that his performances have attracted interest from clubs.
Tottenham Hotspur are one such club, as they look to secure a long-term replacement for Hugo Lloris, who is nearing the end of his career. The Premier League outfit are considering Costa as a potential successor to Lloris.
However, signing Costa won’t be an easy task, given the high demand for his services. Manchester United are also interested in strengthening their goalkeeping position and they are likely to compete with Spurs for the player’s signature.
