Manchester United have been linked with a January move for Bayer Leverkusen forward Eliesse Ben Seghir, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes.

Michael Carrick is reportedly keeping tabs on the 21-year-old Morocco international as he looks to add further depth and rotation options across his forward line during the winter window.

Leverkusen Could Demand Discount on Original Fee

Leverkusen paid close to €30 million to prise Ben Seghir away from AS Monaco in September 2025, but his value has since dropped to around €20 million. Reports suggest the Bundesliga side would be reluctant to sell at that valuation, though a proposal in the region of €25 million could open negotiations.

Persistent injury trouble has restricted the winger since his move to Germany, with an ankle problem limiting him to just 15 appearances and roughly 400 minutes of football last term. That stands in stark contrast to his breakthrough spell at Monaco, where he racked up 85 outings, 15 goals and nine assists, having previously attracted interest from Chelsea.

Squad Depth Could Sway United’s Thinking

Despite signing a contract running until 2030, question marks remain over Ben Seghir’s long-term role in Leverkusen’s plans. For United, his versatility and pedigree in Ligue 1 could make him an appealing addition following summer arrivals Youri Tielemans, Andrey Santos and Carlo Baleba.

In my view, this feels more like a shrewd squad-building punt than a marquee statement signing. Ben Seghir’s directness and eye for goal could offer genuine competition for Marcus Rashford and Patrick Dorgu on the left, while his adaptability might even see him deployed on the right in Bruno Fernandes’ absence. At a reduced fee, the risk would be manageable — though United will want reassurance over his fitness before committing.
