Manchester United are reportedly ready to lock horns with Atletico Madrid over the signature of Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.
The Argentina international has established himself as number one for Villa and the country.
The 30-year-old, who has kept 27 clean sheets in 83 games for the Midlands club, is under contract until the summer of 2027, but his future at the club now appears to be in doubt.
A recent report indicated that Atletico Madrid were lining up a move for the Argentine, as the club’s current number one Jan Oblak could leave on a free transfer next summer.
Now, Football Insider reports that Manchester United have also joined the race for Martinez’s services, and the Premier League giants are keeping a close eye on the shot-stopper with a view to a potential future move.
Villa are believed to be after at least £45m to sanction Martinez’s sale in 2023.
