Liverpool are reportedly eyeing a move for Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta, who is also a target for Manchester United, according to Foot Mercato.

The Reds have been active in the summer transfer market, securing deals for Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz, and Milos Kerkez. However, following the heartbreaking passing of Diogo Jota and uncertainty surrounding Darwin Núñez’s future—amid interest from Napoli—Arne Slot is now prioritising a new No.9.

While Liverpool admire high-profile strikers like Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak, both are expected to cost in the region of £87m (€100m). As a result, the club are exploring more affordable options—and Mateta has emerged as a serious contender.

Liverpool Make Contact with Mateta’s Camp

The Merseyside giants have reportedly made initial contact with Mateta’s representatives. The Frenchman is under contract at Selhurst Park until 2027, but Palace are open to a sale if they receive an offer of around £52 million.

Liverpool aren’t alone in the race, though.
