Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy close to agreeing new contract?

Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy is close to signing a new lucrative contract at King Power Stadium.

According to the Daily Mirror, the England international will be offered a new £80,000-a-week contract to fend off interest from Chelsea.

The reigning Premier League champions are reportedly weighing up a £30m January move for the 28-year-old forward, who has two-and-a-half years left on his current deal at the Foxes.

Despite Vardy’s sensational form this season, critics have questioned whether the striker is really worth his £30m valuation.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes the Premier League top scorer is currently the best goalscorer in the English football and justifies the price tag being quoted on him.

“Yes, because he is the best goalscorer in the league and you have many players under him who have been paid much more, who don’t score that number of goals,” said Wenger as quoted by The Times.

“The mystery is without a doubt, ‘Why is he 28 and nobody bought him before?’ And why did he not have that success before? But today, of course, nobody would dispute that,” he added.

Vardy is currently in pole position to win the Golden Boot, having scored 15 goals and helps to lead his club to the top of the league table this season.
