Chelsea to sign new midfielder in 2023

Chelsea remain undeterred in their efforts to sign a new midfielder when the transfer window reopens in January.

The Blues spent more than £250m on new arrivals this summer under their new owners.

However, the Evening Standard claims that the West Londoners are ready to further back head coach Thomas Tuchel in the mid-season, with particular emphasis on improving his options in the middle of the park.

The Premier League giants failed with big-money moves for Ajax’s Edson Alvarez and Southampton’s Romeo Lavia on deadline day in their search for late attack reinforcements.

In the end, the club acquired the signature of Denis Zakaria on a season-long loan deal from Juventus, with an option to make the move permanent.

However, Chelsea to continue their search for further midfield additions in the January transfer window.

The Blues are expected to revisit their interest in Alvarez after Ajax confirmed that the Mexican pushed for a move to Stamford Bridge during the summer.

Thomas Tuchel’s side have also been linked with a move to sign Arsen Zakharyan from Dynamo Moscow.
