Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, who is also being targeted by Chelsea, according to a report by 90min.
Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta is eager to sign a top-tier goalkeeper during the ongoing transfer window to provide competition for Aaron Ramsdale in the starting XI. While Ramsdale has performed well since joining the Gunners, Arteta believes having competition will further enhance his performance, making Sanchez an attractive option.
Though Arsenal’s priority is to sign David Raya from Brentford, the £40 million asking price has proven to be a significant obstacle. Consequently, they have also inquired about Sanchez, who still has two years left on his contract, making him a more affordable alternative.
Having risen through the ranks at Brighton, the Spain international has established himself as the club’s number one goalkeeper, showcasing his skills in the Premier League.
However, Chelsea are also interested in the 25-year-old stopper, as they seek to bolster their goalkeeping options following Édouard Mendy’s departure.
While Kepa Arrizabalaga is expected to start for Chelsea, the club desire a strong backup option due to Kepa’s inconsistent performances over the years.
With both Arsenal and Chelsea expressing interest, the battle for Sanchez’s signature promises to be intriguing.
