Arsenal and Tottenham Monitor Barcelona Youngster Xavi Espart as €100m Release Clause Emerges

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keeping tabs on Barcelona full-back Xavi Espart, though the La Liga giants appear determined to protect their prized asset.

Why Are Arsenal and Spurs Interested in Espart?

According to Caught Offside, both Premier League clubs have watched the 19-year-old in person and compiled detailed scouting reports. The La Masia graduate has built a reputation as one of Spain’s brightest young defenders, thanks to his technical quality, tactical awareness and versatility.

Espart’s comfort in possession and ability to progress play from deep would suit Mikel Arteta’s preference for technically polished defenders. For Arsenal, he looks like a long-term investment rather than an immediate starter.

Tottenham’s interest may hinge on Pedro Porro’s future. The Spain international has been linked with Barcelona and Real Madrid, so Spurs could soon need a successor who offers quality on the ball.

Barcelona’s Contract Protection

Barcelona handed Espart his first long-term professional deal on 1 July 2026, tying him to the club until June 2030. The contract reportedly includes a release clause exceeding €100 million, giving the Catalans considerable leverage in any negotiations.

Our Take

A reported market value of around €25 million makes that clause look extravagant, which suggests Barcelona see far greater potential than the current valuation reflects. Neither Arsenal nor Tottenham would necessarily have to meet the full figure, but they would almost certainly need to pay a significant premium.

With little pressure on Barcelona to sell, the real question is whether either London club believes Espart’s ceiling justifies paying well above his present worth. Unless his situation at Camp Nou changes, any move looks a long way off.
