Arsenal and Chelsea Set for Transfer Tug-of-War Over Ousmane Diomande

Arsenal and Chelsea are preparing for a summer showdown in the transfer market as both London giants set their sights on Sporting Lisbon’s rising star, Ousmane Diomande.

The 21-year-old centre-back, who enjoyed a standout 2024/25 season, has emerged as one of Sporting’s top assets. According to Portuguese outlet O Jogo, the club is open to selling Diomande for around £50 million—well below his £67 million release clause—sparking intense interest from the Premier League duo.

Chelsea Hold Edge in Diomande Pursuit

Chelsea could be in pole position to land the Ivorian defender, with manager Enzo Maresca reportedly prioritising defensive reinforcements. The Blues are in need of first-choice centre-backs, and Diomande fits their profile: young, dynamic, and full of potential. More importantly, he would likely walk into the starting XI, making Stamford Bridge a more attractive proposition.

Arsenal, on the other hand, see Diomande as a depth option behind their first-choice pairing of Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba. While Mikel Arteta is keen to strengthen his defensive ranks, it’s unclear whether the Gunners are willing to invest heavily in a player who may not start regularly.

With both clubs eyeing other summer targets, the battle for Diomande could come down to playing time promises and financial flexibility.
