AC Milan Plot January Loan Move for Manchester United Striker Joshua Zirkzee
AC Milan are reportedly preparing a fresh attempt to sign Joshua Zirkzee from Manchester United, with the Dutch forward’s lack of game time under Michael Carrick opening the door to a return to Italian football.

Milan Eye Loan with Option to Buy
According to Italian outlet Calciomercato, the Rossoneri could revisit their interest in Zirkzee when the January transfer window opens. A loan agreement with an option to buy is understood to be the preferred structure, allowing Milan to assess the striker before committing to a permanent deal.
Zirkzee was close to joining Milan in the summer of 2024, only for Old Trafford to win the race for his signature. Now, with United seemingly willing to listen to offers, the Italian giants sense an opening.
Limited Opportunities Under Carrick
The 25-year-old has fallen well down the pecking order this season, making just four appearances for a total of 70 minutes without starting a single match. Last term was only marginally better, with fewer than 700 minutes across 26 outings and just three goal contributions.
Across his time in Manchester, Zirkzee has managed 13 goals and assists in 79 appearances. That return has left his long-term future uncertain, despite a contract that runs until 2029.
Why Milan Could Be the Right Fit
Milan currently rely on Goncalo Ramos and Francesco Camarda as their main centre-forward options, so another attacking body would not go amiss. Zirkzee’s versatility is a further attraction, as he can operate as a second striker or out wide.
Having starred for Bologna, he also knows Serie A well and would need little time to adapt. That familiarity could prove decisive for a player in need of regular football and a confidence boost.
Our Take
This feels like a sensible move for all parties. United would free up a squad place and reduce a wage burden, Milan would gain a low-risk option, and Zirkzee could rebuild his reputation in a league where he previously thrived. The only real question is whether United would accept a loan rather than demand a permanent fee for a player they invested heavily in.
