Tottenham Rule Out January Move for Kim Min-jae but Summer Bid Remains Possible
Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly not planning to bring in a new centre-back during the January window, even though their Premier League campaign has started badly.

According to Football Insider, Bayern Munich’s Kim Min-jae is unlikely to arrive this winter, with Roberto De Zerbi content with the defenders already at his disposal. A summer approach, however, could be a different matter.
Why Spurs Are Holding Firm on Defensive Recruitment
Spurs sit bottom of the table and have shipped goals in nearly every game, raising understandable questions. Yet the club spent heavily on the position last summer, signing Jan Paul van Hecke, Marcos Senesi and Tosin Adarabioyo. Micky van de Ven, now club captain, has paired up with Van Hecke most often under De Zerbi, while Senesi and Tosin are still waiting to become regulars.
Another major outlay on Kim in January would add to an area already overhauled. Spurs have admired him before, but the timing appears wrong.
Kim Min-jae Could Become a Summer 2027 Target
Things may look different when the summer window opens. Kim, 29, has slipped down the pecking order at Bayern behind Dayot Upamecano and Jonathan Tah, and the German club are said to be open to selling if the circumstances suit. Waiting would also give Spurs longer to assess their current defenders.
Our Take on Tottenham’s Centre-Back Plans
Staying calm in January feels sensible. Spurs clearly have defensive issues, but adding another centre-back purely because results are poor risks bloating the squad. Van de Ven suits a high line, and Van Hecke has done enough to deserve patience.
The real question is whether Senesi and Tosin can break into De Zerbi’s thinking. If not, Kim becomes far more appealing. His experience, strength and Champions League background would help, though at 29 he is hardly a long-term answer. I would rather see Spurs give the current group more time.
