Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly set their sights on a deal for Barcelona striker Ferran Torres.
According to Calcio Mercato, Spurs are said to be interested in the 23-year-old forward from Barca. The North Londoners may consider selling him in the summer to generate the necessary funds for their transfers as he may no longer be in their plans.
Torres was one of the first high-profile signings since Xavi Hernandez became Barcelona’s manager.
Despite making 33 appearances in all competitions, Torres has only scored five goals and provided a single assist. Xavi has often preferred to keep him on the bench, which raises doubts about his future.
In January, several Premier League teams, including Arsenal and Tottenham, inquired about Torres’ availability. However, the Spaniard decided to stay and fight for his position. While the Catalan giants may have different ideas about his future, Torres may maintain this stance.
Barcelona are facing financial difficulties and may need to sell a few players to fund new transfers. They could sell Torres if a reasonable offer comes in, likely below the €55 million they paid Manchester City over a year ago.
Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly still interested in Torres and may make inquiries about him during the summer transfer window. The report suggests that if Spurs appoint Luis Enrique, it could make signing Torres easier.
Tottenham expected to make changes to their attacking lineup, with Richarlison possibly leaving the club. He has not met expectations and has been a disappointing signing considering the hefty fee Spurs paid in the summer.
All parties could benefit from Torres moving to a new team in the summer, with the frontman potentially having a marginal role at Barcelona next season. Clubs like Tottenham could benefit from a reduced price tag for Torres.
