Newcastle United have reportedly placed emphasis on signing Manchester United playmaker Scott McTominay.
The rumours about the 26-year-old’s next destination have become more frequent as he has seen less playing time at Old Trafford this season.
The Scot is currently facing competition from players such as Bruno Fernandes, Christian Eriksen, Casemiro, and Fred.
McTominay has begun just 11 of his 24 games this season, although he played the full 90 minutes in Sunday’s 3-2 loss to Arsenal.
Despite getting the nod against the Gunners, McTominay’s difficulty in securing regular playing time has piqued the interest of the Magpies, who are planning to upgrade their midfield during the January transfer window.
According to The Athletic, Newcastle United and Manchester United have engaged in talks about a possible deal before the end of the transfer window.
McTominay was a target for the Magpies last summer and he continues to be of interest to the North-East outfit, who are eager to strengthen their team as they push for Champions League qualification.
According to the report, a transfer in January may not be a viable option at the moment, but Newcastle could explore the situation again in the summer.
McTominay has scored 18 goals and registered 5 assists in 194 appearances for Man United. He is under contract at Old Trafford until June 2025.
