Newcastle Transfer Target Aaron Bouwman: Ajax Won’t Budge
Newcastle United have been warned that Ajax are in no mood to negotiate over teenage defender Aaron Bouwman, with a January approach already ruled out.

Why Newcastle United Want Aaron Bouwman
Football Insider reporter Pete O’Rourke claims the Magpies are keen to add a centre-back in 2027 and have identified the 19-year-old Netherlands youth international as a leading target. Ajax, though, reportedly have no intention of letting him leave soon. Any serious move would have to wait until next summer, and even then a deal after the 2026/27 campaign looks difficult.
Aaron Bouwman Profile and Ajax Career
Bouwman joined Ajax in July 2018 after spells with DSS and Koninklijke HFC. He has progressed quickly and has 25 senior appearances to his name. This season he has been a regular in the Eredivisie side, playing close to 1,000 minutes across 11 outings.
Newcastle’s Defensive Plans
Eddie Howe’s side are planning for the future. Dan Burn and Fabian Schar are both in the latter stages of their careers, although contract discussions with Burn are expected. Sven Botman has also endured fitness problems in recent seasons, even if he has stayed fit so far this term. Abdelhamid Ait Boudlal is another name linked with the Tyneside club.
Is Patience the Best Option for Newcastle?
Standing at 1.98m and showing composure beyond his years, Bouwman fits the profile of a modern Premier League centre-back. In our opinion, Newcastle would be wise to keep tracking him while exploring alternatives, because Ajax’s stance leaves little room for an early deal. Patience may be the club’s best asset, though a rival suitor could change the picture quickly.
