Manchester United Weigh Up Move for Martin Zubimendi

Manchester United are reportedly considering a summer approach for Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi, as they look to reshape their squad under Ruben Amorim.

Following their FA Cup fifth-round exit to Fulham on penalties, United’s season continues to falter. Amorim, now tasked with salvaging their 14th-place league position and pushing for Europa League success, is already planning a summer rebuild.

United to Challenge Premier League Rivals?

According to GIVEMESPORT, United’s board are weighing up an ambitious bid for Zubimendi, who has a £50m-£55m release clause in his Sociedad contract. However, financial constraints could complicate any deal, as United must balance their books before making high-profile signings.

Zubimendi, 26, has been a mainstay for Sociedad, making 35 appearances this season, despite the club’s disappointing ninth-place standing in La Liga. While he rejected Liverpool’s advances last year, speculation suggests he is now ready for a move to a top club—with Arsenal reportedly leading the race.

A Deal Too Ambitious for United?

Despite United’s stature, attracting elite-level talent has become more challenging. Champions League qualification via the Europa League remains a possibility, but Zubimendi may need further assurances before considering a switch to Old Trafford.

If United are serious about landing the Spaniard, they would likely need to offload Casemiro, whose £300,000+ per week wages make it unsustainable for him to play a reduced role. Christian Eriksen is also expected to depart, freeing up squad space.

However, with Arsenal already pushing for a deal and Liverpool still monitoring the situation, United could face a tough battle to secure Zubimendi’s signature. Can they pull off this ambitious move, or will they be outmanoeuvred by their Premier League rivals?
