Manchester City Still Want Mathis Albert After Dortmund Reject €15m Bid
Manchester City are reportedly keeping tabs on Borussia Dortmund’s American teenager Mathis Albert, despite seeing a summer approach turned down, according to Goal.

Dortmund Rebuff City’s €15m Offer
City were prepared to pay up to €15 million (around £13m) for the 17-year-old attacker, a notable sum for someone with so little senior football behind him. Dortmund refused to budge, ruling out a permanent exit and even a loan, as they view the USMNT youngster as a key part of their future.
Albert’s Dortmund Career So Far
Albert moved to Germany in 2024 from the LA Galaxy academy and worked his way through the youth ranks. He was promoted to the first-team register in February 2026 and made his senior debut against Freiburg in April, playing barely two minutes.
Niko Kovac insists the teenager is in his plans, yet Albert has featured only once this season, in a DFB-Pokal tie. His contract also expires at the end of the campaign, which could hand City fresh leverage.
USMNT Role and City’s American Plans
On the international stage, Albert has won four caps and briefly held the record as the United States’ youngest senior goalscorer. Mauricio Pochettino sees him as part of the long-term picture.
City already have a deal for fellow American Cavan Sullivan, due to join in 2028. However, speculation has followed the guilty verdict in the club’s financial case, with Real Madrid and Barcelona reportedly keen to hijack that move.
Our View on City’s Pursuit of Albert
City clearly want an American duo for the future, and Albert’s expiring deal makes a renewed push next summer look very plausible. If Dortmund cannot hand him regular minutes, the pull of a bigger fee or a free-agent route could become hard to resist. Still, with Sullivan’s situation uncertain, City may be wise to move early.
