Barcelona, Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest are all monitoring Sporting CP striker Luis Suarez ahead of a possible 2027 move, according to reports in Germany. The Colombian has become one of the most talked-about forwards in Europe.

German outlet Fussball News claims both Premier League sides want to add attacking firepower next year and have identified the 28-year-old Colombia international as a leading target. However, the publication stresses that no formal talks have taken place, with all three clubs still at the observation stage. Sporting, meanwhile, are expected to insist on his €80million release clause being paid in full.

How Has Luis Suarez Performed at Sporting CP?

Suarez arrived from Almeria in July 2025 and has rapidly gone from relative unknown to one of Europe’s most feared marksmen. Last season he netted 38 times and set up nine more in 53 outings in all competitions. His form dipped at the 2026 World Cup, but he has rediscovered his sharpness this term, contributing seven goals and an assist in eight matches.

Why Do Newcastle and Barcelona Need a Striker?

Newcastle reportedly pursued Suarez during the summer window without success. Yoane Wissa is currently their only out-and-out centre-forward, while Nick Woltemade’s long-term prospects on Tyneside are said to be bleak following his loan switch to Juventus. The €80million price tag is the biggest obstacle. Sporting have no need to negotiate, so any suitor must pay it upfront. Newcastle look best placed given their need, but I’m not convinced they’ll stretch to that fee for a player with one prolific season behind him. Barcelona’s finances make a bid equally awkward, while Forest would be taking a huge gamble. Personally, I expect interest to continue but a deal to prove difficult unless Suarez maintains this form deep into the campaign.
