Liverpool Lead Race for Marc Guehi Amid Tottenham Competition
Liverpool are reportedly ahead of Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi, according to Football Insider.
The 23-year-old has been a standout performer at Selhurst Park in recent seasons, helping Palace secure back-to-back mid-table Premier League finishes. His stellar form earned him a spot in England’s squad for Euro 2024, where he was Gareth Southgate’s preferred centre-back as the Three Lions reached the final before falling to Spain.
Guehi’s stock rose even further after helping Palace claim their first-ever FA Cup trophy, securing Europa League qualification under Oliver Glasner. However, with his contract expiring in 2025, speculation over his future is intensifying.
Liverpool Keen on Strengthening Defence
Liverpool are in the market for a new centre-back and view Guehi as an ideal long-term option. With Virgil van Dijk entering his 30s and Ibrahima Konaté also facing an uncertain contract situation, the Reds are looking to reinforce their backline for the future.
Tottenham and Newcastle United are also interested, but Guehi has reportedly rejected Spurs due to their inconsistent pursuit of silverware. Newcastle have tracked him since last summer but may struggle to meet Palace’s demands.
While Palace valued him at £75m last summer, his current market value stands around £38m, and with no new contract agreed, a cut-price deal could be on the table.
Premier League-proven and entering his prime, Marc Guehi could prove a smart acquisition for Liverpool — if they can fend off competition and secure his signature this summer.
