Johan Manzambi Transfer News: Barcelona and Liverpool Eye Aston Villa Midfielder

Aston Villa’s Johan Manzambi is attracting interest from Barcelona and Liverpool, though the Swiss midfielder is reportedly focused on his future at Villa Park, according to TEAMtalk.

Manzambi’s Sparkling Start at Villa

The 21-year-old joined from SC Freiburg in a club-record deal believed to be worth around £60 million. Unai Emery’s side reportedly beat Newcastle United to his signature, despite Manzambi having agreed personal terms at St James’ Park.

He has scored or assisted in every game he has started for Villa. That includes a goal and an assist in the 6-0 Champions League rout of Fenerbahce, followed by the winner away at Newcastle on Saturday.

Liverpool and Barcelona Monitoring Situation

Liverpool are said to be tracking Manzambi with future windows in mind. Should Florian Wirtz continue to struggle, with Bayern Munich still linked, the Swiss international could emerge as a possible replacement at Anfield.

Barcelona also like what they see. His versatility suits the Catalan club’s preference for adaptable young midfielders, and he could eventually succeed Dani Olmo.

Villa Unlikely to Budge

Villa are not expected to entertain offers, and any fee they demanded would probably be steep enough to deter several suitors. Manzambi himself appears happy to prioritise regular top-level football in Birmingham.

Our Take

Interest from two European heavyweights after such a short time in England shows how quickly his stock has risen. With Villa playing Champions League football and Emery getting the best out of him, there is little reason for him to leave soon. Any serious approach is more likely to come next summer or beyond.
