Arsenal step up pursuit of Martin Zubimendi
Arsenal are reportedly closing in on a deal to sign Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi, with talks said to be “very advanced” ahead of the summer transfer window.
The Gunners are prioritising a defensive midfielder after Jorginho and Thomas Partey, both with just three months remaining on their contracts, are expected to depart on free transfers. Zubimendi, a long-term target for Arsenal, looks set to be the man to fill that gap.
With a release clause of €60m in his current deal, Arsenal are preparing to match that fee to bring the talented Spaniard to the Emirates Stadium.
Liverpool, who were also linked with Zubimendi last summer, seem unlikely to rekindle their interest, as reports suggest Arsenal are already on the verge of finalising personal terms with the 24-year-old.
In addition to Zubimendi, Arsenal are expected to strengthen in other key areas this summer, with plans for a marquee striker, a back-up goalkeeper, and a versatile winger to further bolster their squad.
