Gunners keeping close watch on 18-year-old winger as Anfield chiefs push to secure his long-term future

Arsenal have been credited with genuine interest in Liverpool teenager Rio Ngumoha, with journalists Fabrizio Romano and David Ornstein both confirming the north Londoners like the England youth international. The links were first floated by reporter Alan Nixon, and the story has continued to gather momentum this week.

Ngumoha, who only turned 18 last month, remains contracted at Anfield until 2028, though talks over a lengthy extension—potentially running to 2031—are reportedly ongoing. Liverpool are said to have no intention of selling, particularly with the winger’s stock rising after a breakout campaign last term.

Why Arsenal Are Circling

Mikel Arteta’s side have looked light on the left flank since Gabriel Martinelli’s departure, and while no concrete move is imminent, sources suggest the Gunners see Ngumoha as a long-term option rather than a short-term fix. Romano has indicated that any serious approach is more likely in 2027 or beyond, given Liverpool’s determination to tie him down first.

Should a transfer ever materialise, Chelsea would reportedly be entitled to 20 per cent of any profit, following a tribunal ruling linked to Ngumoha’s academy switch to Liverpool in 2024.

A Player Worth the Wait

In my view, Arsenal are right to be patient here rather than forcing the issue. Ngumoha’s close control, low centre of gravity and eye for a decisive run mark him out as one of the country’s most exciting young attackers, but rushing a move now would likely prove costly and unnecessary given his current deal. With Bradley Barcola and Victor Munoz also vying for wide berths at Anfield, minutes may become harder to come by for Ngumoha—something that could eventually work in Arsenal’s favour further down the line.
