Brendan Rodgers insists Mario Balotelli “must do more”

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has insisted that striker Mario Balotelli must do more for the club in order to retain his Reds career.

The Italian international has been failed to impress for the fourth successive outing as the Liverpool went down 1-0 to Basel in the Champions League group stage on Wednesday.

The 24-year-old has managed to score just one goal for the Reds since his £16m move from Serie A giants AC Milan in summer, but the Anfield boss Rodgers has conceded that Balotelli is working hard to get his form back.

“He worked hard, [but] needs to do more. He will be judged on what he creates and what he scores and he didn’t score,” he told Sky Sports News. “The boy is trying, he is working hard.”

Balotelli will get another chance to improve his scoring tally this season when the Reds host West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League action on Saturday.
